Mr. Shailendra Roy holds a Bachelor of Technology degree, and is a graduate of the Wharton Advanced Management Program. He holds directorial level responsibility for the turnkey execution of large scale projects for power (coal and gas-based), and for metallurgical & material handling. Additionally, he is in charge of initiatives for special projects.
 
Mr. Roy is also the chairman of L&T's joint venture companies with Mitsubishi Group of Japan for manufacturing of supercritical boilers and turbines& generators for power plants. L&T's other joint venture companies with Howden(UK) and Sargent & Lundy (USA), too draw their strength from Mr. Roy's leadership.
 
Prior to his elevation to the Board of L&T, Mr. Roy was Senior Vice-President and a member of the Executive Management Committee of the Company. In this role, Mr. Roy contributed significantly to L&T's entry into shipbuilding, railways, power projects and was responsible for the growth of new business ventures including public-private partnership initiatives.
 
He joined L&T as Head of Business Development in 2000, and was tasked with initiating a major foray into road projects for National Highways Authority of India. He was associated with business development of power projects (thermal & hydro), substations, transmission lines, railway electrification, highways and transportation.
 
Before joining L&T, Mr. Roy was Managing Director & CEO of Bharat Heavy Plates & Vessels Ltd., a Government of India undertaking.
 
Mr. Roy started his career in 1975 as an Engineer with the manufacturing complex of BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) at Haridwar. He spent 22 years in BHEL and handled an overseas assignment in Libya during his early days in the public sector company.
