Safety is a priority in every project executed by L&T.  A series of initiatives have been undertaken in this field.
These include:
  • Incorporation of a Safety Policy as a commitment by the top management.
  • Formulation and documentation of various procedures for safety.
  • Development of a detailed Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) manual to be followed at all construction sites, including mishap reporting and investigation.
  • Sharing of best practices with external agencies such as British Council, Loss Prevention Association of India, National Safety Council, consultants and other government agencies.
  • In-house training and education at construction sites and at head office.
  • Safety organisation with qualified Safety Professionals who help various Business Units in improving safety conditions at construction sites.
  • Securing OHSAS:18001 certification from LRQA and maintaining the requirements spelt out under OHSAS:18001.
At L&T, safety is integrated into all work practices. Based on our extensive experience, we have also developed safety manuals, training and education programmes that form a comprehensive Environmental and Safety management system, applicable to all our projects. Every L&T subcontractors and business partners are asked to adopt our Safety Policy.
Some recent Safety Awards
  • Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Jamnagar for Fired Heaters for Refinery - Achieved milestone of 1 million man-hours without lost time accident.
  • Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Gujarat - Hydrogen Plant - Achieved milestone of 2 million man-hours without lost time accident.
  • IOCL Haldia - Hydrogen Plant - Achieved milestone of 1 million man-hours without lost time accident.
  • HPCL, Vizag - DHDS Block - Received Safety Award for working 3.2 million man-hours without lost time accident.
