When agility meets firepower. India’s answer to Multi-Terrain Warfare comes in the shape of the Indian Light Tank. In a significant step towards strengthening India’s defence capabilities, CVRDE (DRDO) and L&T jointly designed and developed the state-of-the-art Indian Light Tank - a next-generation armoured vehicle engineered to safeguard India’s land borders across diverse terrains, ranging from high-altitude regions, deserts and marginal landscapes. It is a leap in innovation that embodies the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Weighing in at 25-tons, the Light Tank features a high power-to-weight ratio, enabling exceptional agility and mobility across challenging terrains, including in high altitude zones. Its light weight design allows for rapid air transportability using existing Military aircraft, ensuring swift deployment whenever required.
The tank’s prowess is demonstrated through advanced armaments, including a 105 mm main gun with a 7.62 mm co-axial gun, an optional anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), and a 12.7 mm remote-controlled weapon station. It can also be integrated with a surveillance drone, further enhancing situational awareness.

Designed with a focus on versatility and future scalability, the Light Tank provides a robust base platform for potential upgrades in the medium-weight category. Entirely indigenous in design, the platform is being manufactured at L&T’s state-of-the-art Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira.
