L&T Chairman & Managing Director, S N Subrahmanyan (SNS), has been conferred his maiden Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (deemed university), Odisha, in recognition of his transformative leadership in infrastructure development, technological innovation and nation-building. 

The honorary DSc was awarded at a special convocation held at KIIT’s Bhubaneswar campus on 8 November. KIIT Vice Chancellor Prof Saranjit Singh presented the honour, joined on stage by Prof Kumar Mohanty (Director – KIIT School of Management), Prof Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty (Registrar – KIIT) and Prof Arvind Tripathy (Dean – MBA, KIIT School of Management). KIIT’s citation praised SNS’s strategic foresight and global impact, stating: “Your journey stands as a model of leadership dedicated to nation-building…” 

On receiving the honour, SNS said, “I accept this honour bestowed on me by the venerable Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology with immense gratitude. This is an achievement of L&T and its people…” 

Delivering the keynote address at KIIT’s Industry Symposium 5.0, SNS urged students to embrace emerging opportunities in green hydrogen, artificial intelligence and sustainable technologies. He highlighted global shifts in energy, digitalisation and migration, noting that “the world is becoming inward-looking, and self-reliance is the new norm”. 

SNS began his career at L&T in 1984 as a project planning engineer. He was inducted on the L&T Board in 2011, became Deputy MD & President in 2015 and was appointed CEO & MD in 2017. In 2023, he assumed the role of Chairman & Managing Director.  

Under his stewardship, L&T has expanded into B2B e-commerce, data centres, semiconductors, AI and green energy, while showcasing Indian engineering across the Middle East, Africa and ASEAN. The honorary DSc conferred by KIIT recognises his four-decade contribution not only to L&T but also to India’s infrastructure and technological progress.
