L&TEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE,
AT A HOME AWAY FROM HOME
- 17 October 2026
In honour of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary, a day of peace, compassion and service to others.
The AccessLife Home Away From Home, in Borivali, Mumbai - a safe space for families travelling to Mumbai for cancer treatment for children - hosted volunteers from L&T as part of their celebrations for Gandhi Jayanti. The visit, aimed at engaging children undergoing cancer treatment and their families in fun activities, while giving the volunteers firsthand exposure to AccessLife's work, was facilitated by our Education project NGO partner – Children Toy Foundation
Children and L&Teers came together to sing, and colour Gandhiji face masks and make Gandhiji's round spectacles as a craft project designed to encourage creativity, fine motor skills and self-expression. The session, full of laughter and enthusiasm, helped the children connect with the values Gandhiji stood for in a fun and age-appropriate way. L&Teers also engaged the children and families through a variety of board games and recreational activities.

For the children, the session offered play, creative expression, laughter and interaction with new people, which helps ease the stress and isolation of prolonged treatment. For parents and caregivers, seeing their children happily engaged provided reassurance and a sense of community. For the volunteers, the visit gave direct insight into the daily realities of families at the centre, which often leads to deeper and more lasting support.

AccessLife Assistance Foundation is a non-profit organisation that supports children undergoing cancer treatment and their families by providing safe accommodation and comprehensive care services during the treatment journey. Recognising that many families travel long distances to access specialised cancer treatment in Mumbai, AccessLife helps reduce the financial, logistical, and emotional burden through accommodation, nutrition, counselling, education support, and recreational activities for children.
As part of its commitment to supporting children battling cancer, L&T partnered with AccessLife Assistance Foundation to establish the AccessLife Centre at Borivali in FY 2024-25. The Centre serves as a safe and nurturing "home away from home" for families travelling to Mumbai for cancer treatment. In addition to providing affordable accommodation, the centre offers nutritional support, counselling, educational and recreational activities, and psychosocial care, enabling children and their families to focus on recovery in a dignified, comfortable, and caring environment.
Through this partnership, L&T continues to strengthen access to holistic cancer care by supporting vulnerable families during one of the most challenging phases of their lives.
