Mr. Subramanian Sarma is the Deputy Managing Director & President of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), playing a pivotal role in driving the Group’s growth, operational excellence, and strategic direction.
In his current role, Mr. Sarma oversees L&T’s core EPC businesses, including Infrastructure, Utilities & Metals, Energy Hydrocarbon, and Renewables, along with select future-facing businesses such as L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd.
His portfolio spans the full project lifecycle - from large-scale infrastructure development to energy security and transition – placing him at the helm of L&T’s integrated ‘build, power, and transition’ capabilities.
A seasoned business leader, Mr. Sarma also serves as Chairperson of key Divisional Boards, enabling strategic alignment, cross-business synergies, and leadership development across these diverse portfolios. He chairs the L&T EHS Council and the Quality Council, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and excellence, and is a member of the Board Risk Committee.
Mr. Sarma holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and a master’s degree from IIT Mumbai. With over four decades of extensive experience in the global EPC industry, including nearly three decades in the Middle East, he has led the execution of some of the most complex and large-scale projects, building globally competitive engineering and construction capabilities.
Mr. Sarma has served on the Board of Larsen & Toubro since August 19, 2015. Prior to joining L&T, he was Managing Director of Petrofac’s Onshore Engineering & Construction business, responsible for delivery of onshore projects globally.
He has received multiple recognitions for leadership and industry contribution, including the CHEMTECH Business Leader of the Year Award (2017), the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Mumbai (2021) and LIT Nagpur (2022), and election as Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (2026).
