Water positive status is conferred upon a manufacturing location only when the amount of water withdrawn for industrial usage is less than the amount of water given back to society and nature. We at L&T have always recognized water stewardship as a key driver for a sustainable business, and have constructed water harvesting structures and water treatment and recycling facilities across our campuses in India.

Now, all L&T manufacturing campuses across India, and office campuses like Chennai HQ, Knowledge City and Leadership Development Academy (LDA) have achieved water positive status. The water positivity of manufacturing campuses has been affirmed on the principles of completeness, reliability and accuracy by DNV GL Business Assurance India Pvt. Ltd. – an independent certification agency.

The water harvesting structures developed by L&T in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, have accumulated more than 2400 million litres of water. We also harvested 408 million litres of water at our various establishments.

The total water credit (returned to society and nature) was 4,125 million litres and debit (utilization) was 3,900 million litres.

Water positivity of all L&T campuses is key initiative taken in the sustainability roadmap 2021 of L&T. A water positive status reaffirms our commitment and rigour towards water efficiency as part of our corporate sustainability programme.
